On Election Day, I urge residents in the Stonehouse District to vote for Lisa Ownby for JCC supervisor. I’ve known Lisa for nearly 20 years, and I believe that her demonstrated commitment to the people of James City County, especially its public school students, makes her the right person for the job.

A longtime resident of the county, Lisa served with conviction on the WJCC School Board from 2016 to 2021. She not only helped steer the division through the difficult decision-making of the turbulent years of the pandemic, but she also weathered the disruption and “churn” caused by disgruntled members of the public with poise and grace.

As a mother of four children who all attended WJCC public schools, and as a professional who has devoted her career to serving children with developmental disabilities and their families, Lisa has always put the best interest of the students of WJCC schools first. She understands that for all students to flourish, schools must take their particular vulnerabilities and needs into account.

Most importantly, her tenure on the school board has equipped her with the knowledge and experience necessary to work productively in partnership with city representatives.

And when it comes to WJCC schools, she understands that “we are better together.” She is the right person to heal the unfortunate and unnecessary rift between the city and JCC and restore the partnership that has been the foundation of our school division for over 50 years.

A caring and responsible public servant who has devoted her life and career to public service, Lisa deserves our vote this November.
